You read about different ways to cleanse your body everyday on magazine covers. Detox cleanse? Juice cleanse? Fasting cleanse? Candida cleanse? Have you ever wondered why it might be a good idea to do a healthy detox?
If you answered " yes ", then read on!
Every day we are exposed to numerous toxins. Just think about how many chemicals you put on your body before you have breakfast!
... and that's just a few! Anything that touches our skin is absorbed within 30 seconds or so, and absorbed into our blood stream. Once in the blood stream, these chemicals cycle throughout our entire system within a few minutes. Hmmmm!!! We might be more toxic than we think!
Often our North American diet, which consists of mostly processed food, doesn't help either. Have you looked at the labels on your food lately? Can you pronounce everything? And do you know what those chemicals do? Just asking!
Processed food and chemical exposure both contribute to an unhealthy terrain inside our bodies. Alcohol consumption ( see my Happiness Cleanse! ) and poor elimination (bowel) habits also add to the need to cleanse your body.
So how do you know if you should do a healthy detox?
Is it right for you?
There are many signs that your body will give you, to tell you that it needs some attention. Below is a list of symptoms that could indicate that you should cleanse your body.
If you are experiencing more than one of the above symptoms, you may want to learn how to detox your body.
One of my mentors, Julie DeVisser, ND, suggests that cleansing is an ongoing process. I really like her approach. She talks about making sure that the bowel is clean and empty before embarking on any other cleanses.
Considering the fact that 70% of our immune system is located in the bowel or large intestine, it makes sense that we do everything we can to have a healthy bowel!
For example, once the bowel has been cleaned out, you could follow that with a candida cleanse , and then systematically work your way through the body, cleansing each of the body systems in turn:
